My practice, in one line
About Rumana

A steady, practised hand — for children, adults and families.

I'm a counselling psychologist based in Kondapur, Hyderabad. I've supported over 440 people through anxiety, depression, learning difficulties, behavioural concerns and high-risk situations — across international schools, psychology clinics and rehabilitation settings.

My work blends evidence-based therapy with genuine warmth. Whether I'm building an IEP with a child's teachers, guiding parents, or sitting with an adult through a hard season, I care about confidentiality, trust and progress you can actually feel.

Honesty about my role

What I do — and what I don't.

As a counselling psychologist, I believe you deserve clarity about where I can help and where someone else is better placed. If anything is outside my scope, I won't leave you stranded — I'll help you find the right professional and, with your consent, work alongside them.

How I can support you

Talk therapy for everyday and moderate concerns — anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, relationships and life transitions
Emotional and behavioural support for children and adolescents
Remedial and learning support, including IEPs and study strategies
Behaviour support for neurodivergent clients, and guidance for parents
Coping skills, emotional regulation and wellbeing workshops

What sits outside my scope

I don't prescribe or adjust medication. That's the role of a psychiatrist (a medical doctor).
I don't give formal clinical diagnoses or labels. In India that's the remit of RCI-registered clinical psychologists and psychiatrists.
I don't administer clinical psychometric or diagnostic test batteries used to diagnose disorders.
I'm not the sole care for severe or acute conditions (e.g. schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, psychosis), which need clinical and psychiatric treatment.
I'm not an emergency or crisis service. If you're at immediate risk, please contact emergency services or a crisis helpline.

The guidelines I hold myself to

Confidentiality, with limits

What you share stays private — except where there's risk of serious harm to you or others, or where the law requires disclosure.

Informed consent & collaboration

You set the goals. Nothing happens without your understanding and agreement, and you can pause or stop at any time.

Within my competence

I work only within my training and refer you on — to a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist — whenever your needs call for it.

Evidence-based & non-judgemental

Approaches grounded in research, offered with respect for your background, beliefs and identity.

Clear boundaries

Therapy is a professional relationship, not a friendship — free of dual relationships or conflicts of interest.

Ongoing supervision

I keep learning and review my practice through professional supervision and continuing education.

Kind words

What families and clients say.

Rumana met our son exactly where he was. The change in his confidence at school has been the most reassuring thing we've seen as parents.
Parent of a Year 4 studentHyderabad
I came in carrying a lot of anxiety and left each session with something I could actually use. I never felt judged — only understood.
Adult clientOnline sessions
Her IEPs were practical and clear, and our teachers actually understood how to use them. A genuinely collaborative partner for inclusive classrooms.

Let's take the first small step.

A short, no-pressure message is all it takes. Tell me a little about what's going on, and we'll find a time to talk.
